Charging Points and Other Facilities

On Street Charging Points

Shropshire Council made an announcement in respect of a successful bid for Government funding which has secured the Council almost £902, 940 to install more on-street electric vehicle charging points across the county.  The grant award came from the ‘Office for Zero Emission Vehicles’, with support of the Energy Saving Trust. This will enable the installation of on-street charge points for residents wishing to charge their plug-in electric vehicles.  The Council will now work with our charge point operator, ‘Connected Kerb’, to bring the number of EV charge points to 320, across 45 locations in the county.  Please refer below to the proposed Electric Vehicle Charging Point locations in the area.

*Aston Street car park, Shifnal is leased and will be contacted for discussion in the new year.*

Site selection has been informed by data analytics showing locations of early adopters of technology in residential areas where properties have little / no off-street parking. Charge point locations are therefore carefully distributed to provide convenient access to EVCPs for residents within each region without off street parking and is intended to give them confidence in their ability to access chargers when they need them.

  1. I am really not sure about putting ECPs on the Aston Street car park, the purpose of this car park has to be short term parking to support the Shifnal shops, if slow charging points are installed this will take out available spaces for many hours, fast charging points will need a lot of available power and in many cases the infrastructure is very expensive to introduce.
I am not sure there would be any demand for charging in such a location anyway , they will be more expensive then charging at home a different more expensive VAT rate is charged for a start, I think the case for putting ECPs in Aston street needs to be carefully considered and impact assessed, it could be an expensive mistake, putting ECPs in this car park because there isn’t another suitable location isn’t a good enough reason

    1. Thanks for your comment David. This was discussed at Shifnal Town Council before Christmas. Councillors had concerns over this as there are already pressures on parking spaces at the back of the co-op.
