Standing for Election for Shropshire County Council and Shifnal Town Council

I have been confirmed as a candidate for Shifnal South in the forthcoming Shropshire Council elections. It has been an honour to serve as a town and county councillor and if I am fortunate enough to be elected again, I will continue to fight for our green spaces, services, and infrastructure.

As a Town councillor and resident of Shifnal, I am very familiar with the issues faced by the Town and residents. Whilst we have managed to get local policing back in Shifnal, improve some of the roads (Stanton Road being the best example) and the Town Centre, the threat of development around Shifnal in the green belt is still looming.

I opposed further developments around Shifnal on the grounds that no guarantees could be given over to employment land and that the Town’s infrastructure is already stretched due to house building over the last ten years.

I will continue to challenge developments around the Town that I view as excessive. I will only support modest development with a clear rationale for how health, education and transport will be planned to grow alongside any new houses that are built.

Although we now have police based in Shifnal (behind the library), and crime is relatively low, we still occasionally suffer from litter, graffiti, and vandalism. I would like the Town council to take on more responsibility for managing the Town Centre, allowing for more local accountability.

I will continue to support the Town Council as it works alongside other local organisations to provide constructive activities for the young people of Shifnal.

An excellent example of where the Town Council has improved spaces around Shifnal
Shifnal Town Council also has responsibility for maintenance of the St. Andrew’s Church grounds.
I made good on my previous campaign promises to get the police back into Shifnal and oppose over development of Shifnal

There are five candidates standing in Shifnal South and Cosford this time. Three (including myself), are local and on the Town Council: the others are Roger Cox, the former Town Mayor, and Jan Coulson the Labour candidate. In the last election neither the Liberal Democrats stood (this time they have a candidate from Telford) or Reform (Mr. Delaney’s address has not been provided).

I hope that if you are reading this, you do vote, and that your vote is based on local considerations.
