Maintenance of Shifnal Town Centre

Shropshire Council’s drainage cleansing team have been working in Shifnal this week to cleanse the drainage channels in Cheapside and Market Place.  All channels are now clear of detritus and are functioning as designed with no other issues reported.

It should be noted that Shropshire Council are responsible for the majority of open spaces in and around Shifnal. The Town council are responsible for the following sites (https://www.shifnaltowncouncil.gov.uk/services/open-spaces/). Essentially recreation areas and the town centre hanging basket display and a number of planter boxes throughout the town, as well as the ones on the approaching roads into town.

Myself and the Town council are in favour of the Town Council having more control over maintenance. We feel we can be more responsive and more accountable. As previously stated we are not happy with the current service particularly for the Town Centre.

Boundary Review

The Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) have been undertaking a review of the electoral arrangements for Shropshire Council and their final recommendations can be viewed here:

Shifnal and Albrighton fall into Eastern Shropshire within the document:

A new ward name Shifnal Rural will be created to ensure that voters are equally represented throughout the county. It should be noted that the current Shifnal North, Shifnal South and Albrighton districts will all be affected by this boundary review.

Fix My Street

Residents can use Fix My Street to report a number of issues regarding roads, signage and general maintenance to Shropshire Council.

You can also report a problem via https://improvingyourroads.shropshire.gov.uk/

The council are currently investigating signage in Neachley Lane

This one was raised by a resident and I’ve contacted the Highways department again as this has been reported several times (it approaches a dangerous junction on the A41).
