I have, over the past weeks and months received questions via the mail, email and online forums including Facebook regarding future housing development on green belt land in the district but particularly in Shifnal.
From the very outset of these proposals, when myself and other Town Councillors met with officers from Shropshire Council, over a year ago, we have pointed out the many flaws of their original and subsequent plans, and have formally opposed the expansion of Shifnal through the Town Council’s official consultation responses.
During severe Covid-19 restrictions, the County Council has continued with the process, only this week deciding to extend the latest consultation by 3 weeks.
There is currently a petition being organised by Shifnal Matters, who have the support of myself and our local MP Mark Pritchard, in their work to protect the green spaces within this district.
I would like as many residents as possible to sign the online petition at change.org
As one resident has pointed out to me, due to the enforced Government lockdown, it is not appropriate to ask local people to deliver leaflets to peoples’ homes as planned. Therefore, please do sign the online petition.
I will continue to oppose these developments in Shifnal and around the district.
As a member of Shropshire Council, I have the privalege of being able to vote on the final proposal.
My vote will be based on the views of the Town Council and local residents first and foremost, and not on local politics.
I was fortunate enough to be elected and my role, as I see it, as a County Councillor, is to voice the concerns of ALL residents of Shifnal South and Cosford, regardless of how they vote.
