Local Issues

It is important for Shifnal South and Cosford that our area receives sufficient funding for local services and infrastructure which I believe can be best obtained by being part of the majority conservative group on Shropshire Council. Sensible collaboration between the Parish, Town and Unitary Councils is surely the best way to ensure residents receive the best available services and get value for money. I pledge that I will do all I can to ensure that our area receives the services it requires and that we benefit from initiatives and projects that the Council promotes.

Main issues:

Traffic congestion and poor road layout in Shifnal town centre
Residents have spoken to me about how dangerous some roads have become dangerous in the morning. Ideally a bypass is required but a change of traffic flow priorities would go some way to alleviate this problem. There are also numerous examples of poor road surfaces and pot holes as well as overgrown grass verges.

Shifnal lacks capacity and availability of parking and local services
There is an ongoing problem with train commuters using the free car park and side roads in order to avoid paying for parking in Telford. One local resident, Steve told me how one morning he found his van blocked in and was delayed in getting out to work. The locals Schools are becoming over-subscribed, as is the Doctor’s surgery which is particularly worrying for elderly residents. I will join and support councillors in fighting for our services.

Residents around Tong are alarmed at planned housing developments
I am opposed to the scale of the planned new housing development on the M54 corridor near Tong due to the detrimental effect on local residents, roads and traffic.

Fly-Tipping and litter
We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of England, but unfortunately fly tipping in some of the rural lanes (for example Lamledge Lane) has become more prevalent. Local people are also fed up with litter in various areas, such as the kids’ playground near Wheatfield Drive and around the train station. Having a greater police presence and hopefully re-opening the local police station would help resolve this.
